Unity Preschool and Dr. Gwen Fiske (Ph.D., BCBA) have partnered to create Evanston’s first therapeutic program integrated within a preschool setting. The Maples class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 to 11:45 AM.

The Maples Inclusion Class is a small, nurturing class for children ages 3-5. Capped at 6 students, children will benefit from additional help developing foundational classroom skills and receive individualized suppport led by a development therapist and a preschool teacher.

Curriculum highlight

Throughout the day, the therapist and teacher support social challenges as they happen, helping children build self-awareness and develop empathy for their peers. Movement activities are playful and dynamic, encouraging children to develop coordination and confidence.

Skills We Support

Our program focuses on building skills in:

  • Social interaction and peer relationships
  • Sensory processing
  • Self-regulation
  • Play skills
  • Expressive and receptive language
  • Attention and impulse control
  • Motor planning and problem solving

Schedule and Format

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:15–11:45 AM

Each day follows a predictable structure that helps children feel secure and engaged:

  • Supported free play
  • Circle time
  • Hands-on activities (sensory and fine-motor focus)
  • Gross motor play

Enrollment Options

Children can enroll in The Maples as a stand-alone program or combine it with our other classes:

  • Pawpaws (3s): Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
  • Sassafras (3/4/5s): Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

Enrollment is ongoing based on availability.
